My name is Bec Leslie and in 2017 I was diagnosed with a Grade 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). Despite how often, or what you see in the media there are still breast cancers like mine, with NO TARGETED TREATMENT.
Triple Negative is a rarer breast cancer that occurs in only about 15% of breast cancer diagnoses. It is aggressive and often found between mammograms because it is so fast growing. Because of this it is often more advanced or has spread by the time it is discovered.
Fortunately for me after several surgeries and intensive chemotherapy I am now in survivorship!! Thanks to Chicks in Pink and their amazing support throughout my treatment. Their assistance makes a practical difference in the lives of women battling breast cancer – mastectomy bras, assistance with car parking, counselling and more. I cannot tell you how much this helped me!!! They also support vital research into breast cancer and particularly TNBC like mine – to find targeted treatments.
On any given day, 50 women* will have their worlds turned upside down when they hear the words 'You have breast cancer', and eight women* will tragically lose their fight against the disease.
As part of the RACQ International Women's Day Fun Run, we're raising funds for Mater Chicks in Pink to make an immediate impact for these women.
But we need your help.
Your donation will also be helping to fund life-saving research at Mater to better understand and treat breast cancer in the future.
Ultimately, we’ll be helping to make life easier for women with breast cancer today and saving more lives tomorrow.
